CLEMSON, S.C. (WSPA) - Today marks 24 years since the deadliest terrorist attack in the United States took place, and in honor of those lost, Clemson University is hosting its third 9/11 stair climb.

The university said approximately 600 people have committed to the challenge, the biggest turnout they said they’ve seen.

“You'll never forget. I was at a United Way breakfast that morning. At that time, obviously social technology was not as robust. We were hearing it word of mouth, and we couldn't believe what we were hearing. It's still just to this day, gives me chills of what happened,” said City of Clemson Mayor Robert Halfacre.

The attacks happened more than two decades ago, but for many people they remember it like it was yesterday.
