DELTA COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) — On Wednesday, Delta County Public Health reported two confirmed human cases of West Nile Virus (WNV). These are the first reported human cases in Delta County for 2025.

The two cases involve individuals who are over 80 years old. One is a male from the Delta area, and the other is a woman from the Surface Creek area.

People infected with WNV may experience no symptoms; however, symptoms can include fever, headache and fatigue. In some cases, severe illness and death can occur. WNV symptoms can develop within two to 14 days after being bitten by an infected mosquito. There is currently no treatment for the virus, but mild illness tends to improve on its own.
