Officer injured during car chase on I-20, Covington police say

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A police officer was injured during a car chase on I-20 Thursday, according to Covington police.

Police said a zero-turn lawnmower was stolen from an Ace Hardware in Covington. Officers attempted a traffic stop on a U-Haul connected to the case around 1 p.m. The U-Haul drove away onto I-20.

An officer tried to PIT maneuver the U-Haul, forcing it to crash into another Covington police car. The police car overturned, injuring an officer inside.

The officer was hospitalized.

Covington Interim Police Chief Brent Fuesting said the officer’s injuries were “not serious.”
