LA CROSSE COUNTY, Wis. (WXOW) – La Crosse County Health Department has announced that the county's first human case of West Nile Virus (WNV) in 2025 has been reported.

The virus had been found in other parts of the state prior to arriving in La Crosse County, in both humans as well as animals.

First confirmed case of West Nile Virus reported in human in Dane County

WNV is spread to people through the bite of an infected mosquito and is not spread from person to person. The virus is transferred to mosquitos after feeding on an infected bird.
