MASON, Tenn. -- The Mayor of Mason, Tenn., confirmed Thursday that 20 to 25 Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainees are being held at the former West Tennessee Prison.

Wednesday night, a former prison in Tipton County began accepting and housing ICE detainees, according to the company contracted to run the West Tennessee Detention Facility.

Mason Mayor Eddie Noeman confirmed with WREG 20 to 25 ICE detainees arrived in Mason, Tenn., on Wednesday night at the facility.

The Mayor told WREG he had no information on where those detainees came from, but said he expects more activity in the coming weeks.

Last month, the Mason Board of Aldermen approved a contract with CoreCivic to operate the facility in the former West Tennessee Detention building.
