CARTER COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Students in Carter County showed appreciation for their bus drivers on Thursday for Bus Driver Appreciation Day.

Through a partnership with UTRUST, schools and students provided t-shirts, Chick-fil-A cards, cookies and other treats for Carter County bus drivers. The theme for this year's celebration was "Vikings."

Brandon Young, Carter County Schools public relations coordinator, said that bus drivers are "unsung heroes."

"Without them, we couldn't have school, so they are most important," he said. "They get up early in the morning, and they drive that bus with a smile on their face, they build those relationships with those children, and they are the first face those kids see, and then they are the last face they see before they step off and go home, and t
