LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The City of Lansing held a ceremony at Wentworth Park to honor survivors, families, and first responders who lost their lives on 9/11.

Engraved in many of our minds forever are just two words: Never Forget. And every year, the City of Lansing makes sure no one does.

“When we built this memorial, we actually were able to get a piece of the steel from the World Trade Center,” said Lansing Chief of Police Rob Backus. “We knew that for the capital city, we needed to remember and memorialize this moment in time.”

The memory is what brings Lansing’s community and first responders, like Chief Rob Backus, together every year on the anniversary of 9/11.
