MUSKEGON, MI -- Michiganders are four season people so when the sunlight wanes the outdoor activities don’t end, they’re simply illuminated.

The lit four-mile trail tucked within Muskegon State Park is turning its lights back on for fall night hikes.

Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park, located at 462 N Scenic Dr in Muskegon, keeps its cross-country ski and snowshoe trail open, groomed and lit every night for hikers until snow season.

Hike the Lights turns on at sunset and off at 10 p.m. Admission is free in the spring, summer and fall.

What started as a pandemic pastime to encourage people to get out and get active has turned into a tradition. Now its fifth season, thousands of hikers have participated, said Daniel Bonner, outdoor adventure specialist.
