BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) - As Americans unite in remembrance of the September 11th attacks, many West Virginians are coming face to face with a piece of history from that fateful day.

A steel beam from the 42nd floor of the World Trade Center made its ways to Word Park in Downtown Beckley. The thousand-plus pound artifact has served as a tangible reminder of the attacks that shook the nation. Retired fire chief Kevin Price described the experience of retrieving the beam humbling and powerful. "It was almost surreal to be standing there in front of that hanger," said Price. "[We] knew that we had something very, very special that we were bringing back to this small town in West Virginia." The piece of history can be seen year-round at Beckley's Word Park.
