OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The Three Rivers Public Health Department reported Thursday that two more mosquito pools have been found carrying West Nile Virus.
The total for positive pools in the Three Rivers jurisdiction is now five this summer.
The pools are tested each summer through trapping and taking reports of dead birds.
Transmission of the virus happens through mosquito bites after the insects have acquired the virus from an infected bird.
The best measure to take against becoming infected is to avoid mosquitoes, as there is no vaccine to prevent West Nile Virus.
