KENTUCKY, USA — Persistent dry weather in Kentucky and Indiana has left the region either abnormally dry or in a moderate drought, the National Weather Service said.

Experts warned the drought could worsen, with little to no rainfall expected and above-normal temperatures projected.

Meteorologists are using a tool called the U.S. Drought Monitor to determine if our area is either in or headed to a drought; the six classifications are normal conditions, abnormally dry (D0), showing areas that may be going into or are coming out of drought, and four levels of drought: moderate (D1), severe (D2), extreme (D3) and exceptional (D4).
