Boston police officers were pursuing a man overnight when he began shooting at them, striking one cop.

The police department confirms the incident started when officers saw a group of suspicious people in the park at Dudley and Washington streets in Roxbury around 12:45 a.m. As officers approached to see what was going on, one man ran away, with officers chasing after him.

As the man turned onto Kenilworth Street, police say he allegedly fired at the officers, striking the one officer in the arm. Police returned fire, hitting the suspect multiple times.

Both the officer who was struck and the suspect were taken to separate area hospitals for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
