An off-duty police officer and an off-duty firefighter helped rescue an unresponsive person from a lake in Halifax, Massachusetts, on Thursday night.
Halifax police and fire were dispatched to a report of a person calling for help in East Monponsett Lake around 9 p.m. Thursday. Initial reports from police on scene confirmed that a person was in the water and was unresponsive.

Fire officials said off-duty Halifax police officer Michael Boncariewski kayaked out to the person to hold them above water and off-duty Duxbury firefighter Jennifer Stratton helped bring the person to shore, where Halifax fire and rescue personnel were able to take over care and resume lifesaving procedures.
