BOSTON —
A Boston police officer and a suspect are in the hospital after being shot early Friday, police said.
The shooting happened around 1 a.m. on Dudley Street in Roxbury.
Police said officers and the suspect traded gunfire after police were called to the area to check out a suspicious car. Authorities said one person inside the car got out and started running. Police chased after that person, and that's when authorities said shots were fired.
"As officers turned the corner, they were fired upon by the individual," said Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox. "Officers returned fire, striking the suspect multiple times in the lower extremities. One officer was struck in the arm."
