A councillor who leads a hyper-local party has been arrested on suspicion of fraud.

David Grant, 51, the leader of the Horwich and Blackrod First party, was arrested on Tuesday, September 9 by officers from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and later released on bail as police investigations continue.

Coun Grant was the Mayor of Horwich for the 2023/24 municipal year when he was also chair of Horwich Town Council.

In a statement Coun Grant said he was aware of the allegations, which he said centred on his purchase of a property.

He said he ‘completely refutes any wrongdoing’ and had not been charged with any offences.
