Authorities have arrested a 22-year-old man named Tyler Robinson in connection with the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The arrest was announced during a press conference on Friday morning by Utah Governor Spencer Cox, who stated, "We got him."

Robinson was apprehended after a family member contacted a family friend, who then alerted law enforcement. According to officials, Robinson had expressed political discontent, stating he did not like Kirk and disagreed with his viewpoints.

Evidence collected during the investigation includes a bolt-action rifle found wrapped in a dark towel, along with bullet casings that bore engravings. Some of the inscriptions included phrases such as "Hey fascist! Catch!" and "O bella ciao, bella ciao." Governor Cox noted that the phrase "Hey fascist! Catch!" was particularly significant and "speaks for itself."

Investigators also spoke with Robinson's roommate, who provided Discord messages from an account associated with Robinson. These messages discussed a drop point for a rifle and indicated that Robinson had changed outfits prior to the incident.

Cox expressed gratitude to law enforcement and the public for their assistance in the case, particularly thanking Robinson's family for their cooperation. He emphasized the importance of keeping the Kirk family in mind as the investigation continues.

President Donald Trump commented on the arrest during an appearance on Fox News, stating, "I think, with a high degree of certainty, we have him in custody." Trump mentioned that someone close to Robinson had provided information leading to the arrest. He also expressed his hope that the suspect would face the death penalty, calling Kirk "the finest person" who did not deserve such a fate.

Kirk, a prominent figure and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed on Wednesday while speaking to students at Utah Valley University in Orem. The attack was described as a targeted assassination, with the shooter firing from a rooftop. Kirk was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly after the incident.

In a show of respect, Kirk's casket was transported on Air Force Two and arrived in Phoenix on Thursday night. Vice President JD Vance assisted in carrying the casket, alongside other service personnel. Vance reflected on his friendship with Kirk, which began in 2017 after Kirk reached out to him following an appearance on a talk show.

The investigation into Kirk's assassination is ongoing, with authorities continuing to seek information from the public.
