The suspect in the slaying of conservative activist Charlie Kirk has been identified as Tyler Robinson, 22, of Utah.

“We got him,” Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said in a Friday morning press conference.

Cox said the arrest came after a relative reached out to a family friend with information that Robinson had allegedly confessed to the assassination. That information was passed on to the Sheriff’s Office and later the FBI. Family members said Robinson had become more political in recent years and talked about Kirk to family members.

Robinson was not a current student at Utah Valley University and officials said they believe he acted alone. The university confirmed Robinson “briefly attended USU for one semester in 2021.”
