WAVERLY, Neb. (KOLN) - A Waverly woman is out $4,000 after she received a security alert about a child pornography purchase.
The 75-year-old woman reported the scam to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday.
The woman said it began when she received an Apple alert saying her credit card had been fraudulently used to purchase child pornography. She called the phone number and was told to deposit $2,000 into a Bitcoin machine in Lincoln.
LSO said the scammer convinced the woman to withdraw more money and deposit another $2,000. She also downloaded an app that gave the scammers access to her phone.
It’s unclear what will happen with the woman’s phone, but authorities said they are monitoring her bank account for any suspicious activity.
