MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Construction is set to begin on a new soccer stadium honoring Eliza Fletcher at the University of Memphis.
A $5.5 million building permit for the new soccer stadium on the university's main campus was filed last week. The stadium is to be named for Memphis teacher, mom, and runner Eliza Fletcher.

Fletcher attended the U of M and played soccer there in the mid-2000s. In 2007, she helped lead the team to its first conference title.
Fletcher was abducted and killed after her morning run in the university area in September 2022. Her body was found days later dumped near an abandoned home in South Memphis.
Cleotha Abston is serving life in prison with no chance of parole.
