A dozen homes across the Des Moines metro were raided before dawn in a federal drug sting that drew in nearly three dozen local, state and federal agencies.

Beginning around 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11, tactical units executed 12 search warrants simultaneously at locations in Ankeny, Carlisle and multiple neighborhoods in Des Moines, according to a news release from the Des Moines Police Department.

The operation, the culmination of a months-long methamphetamine trafficking investigation, brought together the FBI’s Omaha and Kansas City field offices, Metro STAR and SWAT units, and state and local police departments from across central Iowa.

Six people were arrested and charged in Polk County District Court with a combination of felony drug and firearms counts. The charges included
