A familiar face at the Pembroke Public Library has stepped forward with a contribution to help improve the facility.
Derrick Nearing, a longtime volunteer and former library board member, recently donated $500 toward the cost of a new book return drop box. The project is expected to cost about $10,000 in total.

Nearing, who holds a master’s degree in art therapy, said his gift was inspired by the important role the library plays in the community. From children’s programming to its annual multicultural festival, he believes the library provides opportunities for connection and growth that go far beyond books.
