CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — Flu and COVID season is approaching and doctors across the Lowcountry say they’re already seeing an increase in patients.

Local health facilities report a rise in COVID cases as students head back to school and summer travel winds down.

“This year is probably earlier. Usually, you tend to see more cases in September or October once schools are fully back in session,” said Dr. Jeffrey Yonce, a family medicine doctor at Roper St. Francis. “But this year, late summer is when we saw a huge spike. Travel could’ve played a role and numbers will likely go up and down before peaking again.”
