NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – An aide to a former North Charleston city council member who faces federal charges for public corruption pleaded guilty Friday.

Michelle Stent-Hilton pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery, two counts of bribery, two counts of wire fraud, theft involving programs receiving federal funds, and three counts of money laundering.

Stent-Hilton’s alleged involvement was as a personal assistant to former City Councilman Jerome Heyward and the founder of the nonprofit organization DEEP SC. She is accused of funneling money through the nonprofit to pay Heyward kickbacks.
