The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 1792, representing staff at the Glen Stor Dun Lodge, held a job action on Montreal Road Friday, to bring attention to what the union says is an ongoing hiring freeze.
CUPE claimed recent budget cuts have dissolved 21 full-time and eight part-time positions at the lodge, which is the long-term care facility owned and operated by the City of Cornwall, and whose costs are shared with the United Counties of SDG.

“A cut in direct care is a change to nursing schedules,” said CUPE Local 1792 vice-president Adam Bergeron, explaining the union’s position. “That means residents will be waiting longer to be fed, for their baths, for someone to hold their hand for spiritual care.”
