Evergreen Public Schools announced early Wednesday that it had reached a tentative contract agreement with the union representing the classified staff in the district, according to an email sent to the public around 1 a.m. by Superintendent Christine Moloney.

Union members voted to ratify the new contract Thursday night, according to Portland-based NBC station KGW8.

About 1,400 paraeducators, bus drivers, security and maintenance staff represented by the Evergreen Chapter of Public School Employees of Washington SEIU Local 1948 went on strike Aug. 26, delaying the first day of school. Schools had been closed since, but reopened Friday.
