CASA GRANDE, AZ (AZFamily) — A pursuit ended with a driver shot by a Pinal County deputy in Casa Grande late Thursday night.

Around 10:30 p.m., a truck fled from a Department of Public Safety trooper on Pinal Avenue near Rodeo Road . Authorities say the driver was speeding and ran a red light, continuing to drive recklessly and changed directions on multiple roads in the area. Pinal County Sheriff’s deputies were called to assist the trooper.

Investigators say the driver continued leading law enforcement on a pursuit and drove into a desert area near Bisnaga Street and Pinal Avenue . While in the desert, Pinal County officials say the driver attempted to use his vehicle to “assault” a pursuing deputy. The deputy then shot the man.
