GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - The bus service between Green Bay and Milwaukee, operated by Amtrak, will end on October 1st after not receiving funding in the biennial budget.
According to a press release from the Wisconsin DOT, the Amtrak I-41 Thruway Bus Service was not able to have its contract renewed because the resources to do so were not provided by the 2025-27 biennial budget.
The release says that Gov. Tony Evers requested $15 million in additional funding to support the bus service as well as potential passenger rail expansion, but the legislature did not provide the funding necessary.
Tickets for the bus covered some of the costs, but the state covered the remaining operational costs, such as equipment and maintenance, through WisDOT’s passenger rail program.
