ROARING SPRING, Pa. (WTAJ) — A chemical leak from the old Appvion Paper Mill turned Halter Creek a vibrant purple Thursday.
Demolition of the site began over the summer and has caused some concerns within the community, this leak being the latest.
WTAJ News got a copy of the response report from the state's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). While the color was cause for worry, DEP said they don't believe there was any harm at this time.
According to the report, during the demolition, crews working at the mill found that an overflow pipe coming from the Spring Dam had ruptured and the water was splashing onto an almost empty tank. That tank allegedly contained residue from a dye the mill used while making paper.
