JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Jackson Mayor John Horhn says the city needs help fighting crime, but not the National Guard.

Horhn spoke to 3 On Your Side on Friday, where he said he didn’t think it was appropriate for the National Guard to be deployed into the state’s largest city right now.

He said he would welcome help from the White House, and said the city is already working with the FBI and other federal agencies to get crime down.

“An offer of helpful resources for more police officers, equipment, technology... That’s what we need from the White House,” he said. “Not the Guard.”

Horhn was responding to questions related to the news that troops were being deployed to Memphis to help address violent crimes there.
