TWIN FALLS — Quagga mussels remain in the Snake River despite two years of treatments.

The good news is that there are significantly fewer of them, sampling indicates.

The Idaho State Department of Agriculture announced Friday that the area impacted by quagga mussels in the Snake River near Twin Falls has been reduced by 51%.

In hopes of completely eradicating the mussels from the waterway, officials pledge further treatments and details will be released in the coming weeks.

Extensive sampling shows the area impacted by quagga mussels is approximately 3.5 river miles, which is down from an impact area of 7.2 miles in 2024. This year's mapping shows the mussels have been detected from the Twin Falls Dam to Shoshone Falls.

Last year, quagga mussels were detected down to Centennial Park.
