TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Recent testing on the Snake River detected quagga mussels once again.

On Friday, the Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) announced that a recent sample found invasive quagga mussels in the Snake River again. Fortunately, there are 51% fewer quagga overall , according to the release by the ISDA. The affected areas span approximately 3.5 river miles, down from 7.2 miles in 2024, indicating effective progress.

“No quagga mussels have been detected upriver or downriver of the 2024 treatment zone,” according to the release.

In 2025, the ISDA has conducted over 4,514 samples statewide.

“Quagga mussels pose a serious threat to Idaho’s water infrastructure, ecosystems and economy,” said ISDA Director Chanel Tewalt. “Full eradication remains the goal,
