BELVIDERE, Ill. — Just days after the assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk , community members in Northern Illinois are preparing to honor his life with a candlelight vigil.

Kirk, 31, was killed on Wednesday in a shooting at Utah Valley University. His sudden death has sent shockwaves across the nation, and now, supporters in Boone County are coming together to grieve and remember him.

The vigil will take place on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at 6 p.m. at Aberdeen Park, 1343 Orth Road in Belvidere.

Organizers are asking attendees to bring candles to light in Kirk’s memory. In addition, anyone who wishes to share a personal letter or card can bring them to the event. A local representative will collect the messages and deliver them to Turning Point USA headquarters in Arizon
