EDITOR'S NOTE: The following is the 10th in an occasional series of features about reporter Mike Conley’s young dog Dandy. During the fall, Dandy will travel to different places in and outside of McDowell County and our readers can follow along and learn something about these sites, all of which are dog-friendly.

For centuries, Bavaria, a state in Germany, has celebrated Oktoberfest, and this fun event attracts people from all over the world.

The famous celebration usually lasts from mid-September until the first Sunday in October. It is an important event in Germany, with a beer festival, games and traditional Bavarian dishes. Here in the United States, and specifically in McDowell County, we can celebrate Oktoberfest, too.
