Firefighters will have more to talk about than usual this weekend at their annual convention in Marystown.

Starting today, those who protect life and property from the ravages of fire will be discussing many aspects of the worst year ever for wildfires in the province.

The provincial government has promised financial compensation for volunteer firefighters, the details of which have yet to be released.

It has been a challenging few months, particularly for those battling the big blaze in Conception Bay North.

Duane Antle, President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Association for Fire Services, says they’ll be talking about the experiences they had and how to better equip firefighters.
