Middlesbrough were unable to make history by starting the season with a fifth consecutive victory, but they showed enough grit and determination to at least leave Preston North End with a point after a thrilling 2-2 draw.

Matt Targett and Alan Browne twice equalised for Boro to cancel out goals from Lewis Dobbin and Jordan Storey to ensure Rob Edwards’ side at least kept their unbeaten start in the Championship intact. It was an off day for Boro overall, but in at least avoiding defeat, they have positives to take.
