Three Australians are within sight of the leader after the opening round of the PGA Tour Champions event in the United States.

Greg Chalmers, Steve Allan and John Senden are chasing leader Angel Cabrera in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Chalmers is tied for 6th after his three-under-par 67 on Friday, while Allan and Senden had a 68s.

Cabrera posted a bogey-free, six-under 64 to set the early pace.

He's one stroke ahead of South Africa's Retief Goosen, who birdied Nos. 10, 12, 14 and 16 for a late surge in his round of 65.

Tied for third are American Bo Van Pelt, New Zealand's Steven Alker and South Africa's Retief Goosen at 66. Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez, the Schwab Cup leader, is among five players tied at 67.

Aussies Stuart Appleby and Rod Pampling shot one-under 69s.
