Sir Elton John has caused alarm amongst his loyal fanbase after posting a photograph of himself apparently confined to a hospital bed, adorned in a glittering cast.

Nevertheless, it was merely a publicity stunt for his role in the forthcoming Spinal Tap II sequel.

The 78 year old musical icon shared a collection of photographs on Instagram depicting him seemingly immobilised in hospital attire, wearing rhinestone-covered leg casts and a neck brace, whilst being surrounded by flower displays and fellow cast members.

The images led countless supporters to believe John had been hospitalised, with messages pouring in expressing wishes for his speedy recovery.
