Southeast Houston – According to the Houston fire department, crews responded to a call for service at Christ Church on Fuqua S.t near Freehill Street around 7 a.m. On Saturday morning.

When firefighters arrived, heavy smoke could be seen coming for the church and the fire was upgraded to a two-alarm fire, according to HFD.

Two firefighters were injured. According to the Houston Fire Department one firefighter suffered a broken ankle and the other has a fractured femur. Both firefighters have been released for the hospital.

No other injuries were reported, and no one was inside of the church at the time of the fire, according to officials.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
