Rapist William Kyaruhanga has been jailed after raping a woman as she slept.

Chester Crown Court heard how Kyaruhanga had been asked to give the woman a lift home from a house party.

But he raped her when she fell asleep on a sofa.

The 58-year-old, of Belgrave Road, Macclesfield, was jailed for eight years after being found guilty of one count of rape.

Police said he had tried to deny the offence.

The incident happened at an address in Congleton.

Detective Constable Doug Whitfield, from Cheshire Police, said: "I welcome the substantial custodial sentence handed to Kyaruhanga, who tried to deny the offences, but the jury ultimately found him guilty of this despicable crime.
