SILVER CITY, N.M. (KFDA) - The West Texas A&M Buffs won their first game of the season against the Western New Mexico Mustangs, 58-27.
Buffs’ starting quarterback, RJ Martinez, completed 19/28 passes and threw for 388 yards and five touchdowns.
Jayden Hibbler and Cam Wiley both rushed for touchdowns in the win. Wiley led the team in rushing yards with eight attempts and 44 yards.
Trevin Edwards led the receiving core with seven receptions, 137 yards, and two touchdowns.
In total, WT notched 684 total yards (514 passing, 170 rushing) and only one turnover.
On the defensive front, the team recorded six sacks, 13 TFL, and two fumbles.
The Buffs are now 1-2 on the year and 1-0 in conference play.
