A two-year-old girl has sadly died in hospital and detectives are investigating her unexplained death. Police officers were called to Hartington Close, in Thornaby , at around 4.20pm on Saturday, September 13, following concerns for the welfare of a child.

The girl was taken to hospital where she sadly passed away. A 25-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man have been arrested in connection with the child’s death and they are being questioned.

Forensic officers could be seen in the Thornaby street throughout Sunday as an investigation into her death is ongoing. Cleveland Police has said her death is being treated as unexplained at this time.
