Sandford's Safety First campaign has vowed to continue its fight for safe school transport after South Lanarkshire Council rejected a petition signed by over 1,050 supporters.
The petition, lodged on September 1, called for urgent action to reinstate free transport for Sandford pupils or deliver essential safety improvements to the walking route between Sandford and Strathaven Academy.
Campaigners argue that the route is unsafe, citing narrow paths, lack of lighting, no barriers, and high-speed traffic on the 60mph country road.
However, the council ruled the petition could not be considered by its Petitions Committee, stating the issue "had been part of a recent consultation" and was therefore ineligible.
