Nearly five years after the City of Bozeman set ambitious goals to reduce its carbon footprint, a report presented to city commissioners last week showed greenhouse gas emissions rose slightly in the last two years.
City staff put together a report detailing 2024, taking into account emissions from transportation, buildings, solid waste and other activities. The data shows city emissions rose 3% from 2022, at the same rate the city's population rose in that time frame. Per capita emissions rose 0.6% in those two years.
Since 2008, the city’s base year for greenhouse gas emissions data, per capita emissions have declined by 16%. Combined with a population growth of 61%, the total emissions for the city have risen 35% in 16 years.
