BENNINGTON — This weekend, local residents, civil servants, and the family and friends closest to longtime Town Manager Stuart Hurd gathered to say goodbye.
Hurd, 77, who had been Bennington’s manager since 1992, and worked for the town for two decades prior to his appointment, died on Aug. 30 after battling a long illness. Hurd is survived by his wife, attorney and former Bennington County Probate Court Judge D. Justine Scanlon.
Services in Hurd's honor were arranged by Devlin Family Funeral Home in Bennington, with calling hours from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12 and a graveside service on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 11:30 a.m. at Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington.
Assistant Town Manager Dan Monks has served as acting town manager since Hurd went on extended medical leave on July 8.
