An hours-long SWAT standoff in the El Cerrito neighborhood, which prompted nearby schools to be placed in shelter in place, ended with a man in custody, the San Diego Police Department said.
San Diego police were called to an apartment complex at 4310 54th Street around 6:20 a.m. by a family member who said another family member was threatening their mother with a firearm, said SDPD Lt. Jonathan Dungan.
As police arrived at the scene, family members stated that the man had made it to the roof with a gun. Police said they quickly contained the building, made sure the family was safe, and placed nearby schools under shelter-in-place out of an abundance of caution, Lt. Dungan said.
