CLEMSON — Clemson University fired one employee and removed two others from teaching duties, the university announced Sept. 15, just days after three faculty members came under fire for comments surrounding the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
State lawmakers and members of South Carolina’s congressional delegation threatened to gut Clemson’s funding over the matter. The university’s board of trustees scheduled an emergency meeting for 2 p.m. Sept. 15.
The firing followed an investigation, the university said, and two other faculty members were notified Sept. 12 to stay out of the classroom. The university declined to provide further details, citing personnel matters, but said the staff were removed from their teaching duties pending investigation for termination.
