CLEMSON, S.C. — Clemson University announced Monday that one employee has been terminated, and two others have been suspended after each was accused of making statements celebrating the death of Charlie Kirk.

Among other things, the employees under fire are accused of posting or sharing posts saying, “no one mourns the wicked” and calling Kirk a “racist” and “white supremacist.”

Multiple candidates for South Carolina's gubernatorial race in 2026 released statements calling for the employees’ termination.

U.S. Representative Nancy Mace wrote a letter to U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon urging that federal funding be cut from any elementary, secondary and post-secondary educational institution that refuses to hold teachers or administrators accountable.
