Toronto police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting at an east end commercial plaza over the weekend.

Police say 43-year-old Paulin Harusha died at the scene despite attempts by emergency responders to save his life.

Harusha was found inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds, according to a statement from police.

The shooting happened in a plaza near Victoria Park Avenue and Sheppard Avenue East close to midnight on Saturday.

Police say suspects were reported leaving the scene in a "light coloured SUV" before officers arrived.

At a news conference on Sunday, Insp. Jonathan Rose with the Toronto Police Service said the motive is still unknown.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police.
