SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- The proposed prison plan for a total of no more than $650 million cuts about 160,000 square feet of space from an original rejected $825 million project for 1,500 beds.

The state Legislature will consider the $650 million proposal for 1,188 cell beds and 300 dorm beds in a Sept. 23 special session.

Gov. Larry Rhoden has developed a frequently asked questions (FAQ) about the prison to answer questions and release the plan for the possible prison.

The plan cuts dayroom space in the overall square footage and cost reduction.

The proposed men's prison for a site along Benson Road in Sioux Falls would have 40 square feet per inmate in dayroom space, according to the plan on Rhoden's FAQ page.
