BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - A man who crashed into a Berkeley County deputy’s patrol vehicle early Monday morning faces multiple charges from the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Jose Maria Zuniga is charged with driving under suspension, open container of beer and wine, endangering a highway worker in a work zone, endangering emergency service personnel and driving too fast for conditions, according to jail records.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened on I-26 when a vehicle Zuniga was driving crashed into a sheriff’s office SUV while a deputy was working a Banks Construction traffic detail.
EMS took the deputy to an area hospital for treatment, but is expected to recover, the sheriff’s office said.
